Energy Impact Award - A Win for Sustainable Innovation at the DCD Awards

Last night in London, T.Loop had the honor of receiving the prestigious Energy Impact Award at the DCD Awards. This recognition highlights not just a milestone for our team, but a broader step forward for sustainable data infrastructure. Here’s a closer look at the project that earned this accolade and why it matters for our industry and our planet.

Data Energy Centers®: A New Approach to Power and Efficiency

The concept behind our award-winning Data Energy Center® is simple yet transformative: utilize underused spaces in commercial properties to host data centers that directly contribute to reducing carbon footprints. Our first implementation, established in 2023, is located in the basement of an existing office block—a deliberate choice to avoid the carbon impact of new construction.

By tapping into existing infrastructure, such as spare grid capacity and in-place systems for ventilation and chilled water, we minimized both costs and environmental impacts. Moreover, our partnership with Submer’s immersion cooling technology set a new benchmark for energy efficiency, achieving a record-low PUE of 1.03. The captured server heat is reused to warm the 12,000 m² building, supplying 60% of its heat needs without additional energy-intensive equipment.

The Numbers That Matter

Our Data Energy Center® delivers a negative carbon footprint of -8 tons CO2eq annually per 10 MW IT load, made possible by Sweden's renewable energy mix and our innovative design. Scaling this concept to 10 MW could cut nearly 80,000 tons of CO2eq—equivalent to 300 cars circling the globe 1,000 times. These figures aren’t just statistics; they represent a pathway toward meaningful climate action.

Circular Economy in Action

This project reflects a broader vision: to uncover and repurpose stranded power capacities in urban environments. With our sights set on office blocks, industrial facilities, and even shopping centers, T.Loop is demonstrating that sustainability and scalability go hand in hand. Data centers can—and should—play an active role in stabilizing grids, lowering carbon footprints, and fostering a circular economy.

A Vision for the Future

Winning the Energy Impact Award is a moment of pride, but it’s also a call to action. The potential to replicate and scale this model globally is vast. Imagine a future where every city unlocks its hidden power resources, transforming commercial properties into sustainable data hubs. That’s the future T.Loop is building—one site at a time.

Thank You for the Recognition

We extend our gratitude to the DCD Awards and our collaborators for believing in our mission. This achievement is more than an award—it’s proof that innovative thinking and purposeful action can redefine industries.

Together, let’s keep pushing boundaries for a sustainable tomorrow.
