T.Loop Named Finalist for the Global DCD Awards 2024 – Energy Impact Award

T.Loop one of the finalist in DCD Global Award 2024 category Energy Impact

We’re thrilled to announce that T.Loop has been named a finalist in the Energy Impact Award category at the prestigious Global DCD Awards 2024. This nomination highlights our dedication to redefining data centers as powerful tools for positive environmental impact.

The DCD Awards recognize the most outstanding projects, people, and teams in the data center industry. This year saw a record-breaking number of entries—over 350 projects across 17 categories—evaluated by the largest and most diverse panel of experts in the event's 18-year history. From these submissions, 60 finalists were selected, and we are honored to be counted among them.

Our Vision: Data Centers as Energy Hubs for a Sustainable Future

Founded in 2020, T.Loop has been on a mission to change how data centers serve society. Our Data Energy Center® concept reimagines the role of data centers, positioning them within existing commercial properties like office buildings and industrial sites. By leveraging these locations’ underutilized infrastructure, our data centers not only provide secure and efficient IT services but also contribute directly to building heating needs and grid stability.

Our approach embodies the principles of the circular economy. For example, we utilize immersion cooling technology to capture excess heat, which we then transfer directly to the property’s heating system—no additional heat pumps required. By situating our facilities within existing structures, we eliminate the environmental impact of new construction and reduce our Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) to a remarkable 1.03.

Milestones and Impact: A Model for Change

In 2023, we established our first Data Energy Center® in partnership with the Nordic real estate owner Cap Man who shared our commitment to sustainable innovation. This center, built within the basement of an office building, avoided the regulatory and permitting challenges often associated with new builds, accelerating our go-to-market timeline. The site’s design optimizes every aspect of energy use, from cooling systems to grid-balancing capabilities.

The environmental impact of our Data Energy Center® is substantial. With Sweden’s clean energy mix, our facility achieves a negative carbon footprint of minus 8 tons CO₂-equivalent per 10 MW of IT load annually. By shifting 10 MW from traditional HVAC-cooled data centers to our model, emissions could be reduced by almost 80,000 tons of CO₂-equivalent per year—equivalent to the emissions from driving a car around the globe 300 times.

Looking Ahead: Scaling Up for Global Impact

T.Loop’s vision extends far beyond single office buildings. We’re working to make data centers integral parts of urban infrastructure across global cities, tapping into unused grid capacity and reducing barriers to data center deployment. Our scalable model is not only efficient but also highly adaptable; we’re already exploring implementations in diverse property types, from shopping centers to industrial sites.

By combining data center operations with energy management, T.Loop is creating sustainable, profitable solutions that benefit property owners, colocation customers, and the energy grid alike.

Join Us on Our Journey

As we look ahead to the awards ceremony, we are filled with gratitude and excitement. Being recognized as a finalist for the Global DCD Awards is a testament to the hard work of our team and the shared vision of our partners. This nomination is just the beginning. We’re eager to continue innovating and scaling up, transforming data centers into a powerful force for sustainable urban development.

Stay tuned for updates on our progress at the DCD Awards and beyond. Together, we’re turning up the heat for a net-zero future.
